PULP THERAPY
Pulp therapy is a pediatric dental treatment used to treat and preserve a child’s natural tooth that has been affected by an injury or tooth decay. The Pulp is soft tissue located inside the teeth. When a tooth becomes damaged or decayed, the pulp may be exposed to bacteria causing infection and pain.
Pulp therapy Is divided into:
1. Vital pulp therapy
• Pulp capping
• Pulpotomy
• Pulpectomy
• Apexogenesis
2. Non vital pulp therapy
• Pulpectomy
• Apexification
PULPOTOMY:
It is defined as the complete removal of the coronal portion of the dental pulp followed by placement of a suitable material/medicine, that will promote healing and preserve vitality of the tooth.
PULPECTOMY:
Removal of the roof and contents of pulp chamber in order to gain access to the root canals which are debrided, enlarged and disinfected and canals are filled with resorbable material. (MTA)
APEXOGENESIS:
It is a physiological process of root development in vital tooth, young permanent teeth can be accomplished by implementing the appropriate vital pulp therapy.
APEXIFICATION:
It is a method to induce a calcified barrier in a root with an open apex of an incompletely formed root in teeth. Infected or non vital pulp of young permanent tooth with blunder buss apex.
